DESCRIPTION:More Info & Registration  \nThe Mouflon Trails at Mylikouri is the second of seven trail races making up “Trail Troodos-Troodos National Forest Park Trail Championship” this being a series of trail races. The two races cater for all levels of runner from the demanding and experienced trail runner\, advanced runner to beginners and nature lovers. \n\n\nMylikouri Trail Run comprises of three routes:\n1. Mouflon Trail (Mylikouri – Xystarouda 34.2 km)\n2. Mylikouri – Komititzi 10.65 km\nThe event will be held on Sunday July 2\, 2023 under the auspices of the Deputy Minister of Tourism and in cooperation with Mylikouri Local Council\, the Forestry Department\, Troodos Development Company and the Troodos Tourism Board.Mylikouri is a quintessential Greek village\, nestled in the Troodos mountains below the historic Monastery of Panagia Kykkos. Sitting at an altitude of 800 meters\, the village boasts stunning\, panoramic views all the way to the coast: surrounded by forests and hidden streams\, abundant in wildlife\, the village of Mylikouri is a nature lovers paradise. The village itself comes under the district of Nicosia\, and belongs to the geographical region of Marathasa. Religiously\, Mylikouri belongs to the Metropolis of Kykkos and Tillyrias. \nBrief history of Mylikouri:\nHistorically\, Mylikouri dates back to Medieval times and was the result of a royal feud. Marathasa in the Middle Ages was divided into two great feuds\, Count of Edessa\, and Count of Riga. Mylikouri belonged to other neighboring villages in the second feud under the Count of Riga. \nThe name “Mylikouri”:\nThere are several versions as to where the village got its name. According to the first\, the name comes from the bayberry (Myrica) (μυρίκη) plant which grows abundantly in the area. The “Ρ” in the Greek spelling was replaced by “λ” and was named Mylikouri. The second version claims the village was created by residents of the villages “Milon” and “Kourion”. Tradition goes that the remaining inhabitants of these villages\, which were destroyed in a massacre by the Karamanian Turks\, moved to the area the village can be found in today. This version is said to be unfounded though as the village exists on medieval charts and does not appear to have been created under Ottoman rule of the island. Another version reports that the village had a special connection with the monastery of Panagia Kykkos. According to Ephraim the Athenian\, the Emperor Alexios Komninos gave the villages of Milon and Kourion as well as the village Peristerona to the Monastery during the 11th century. From these villages during the Frankish occupation\, Peristerona was removed from the monastery’s estate\, while the other two were united and made into Mylikouri. \nPlaces of interest in Mylikouri:\nThe church of Agios Georgos can be found in the centre of the village along with amonuments dedicated to the missing persons of the community and another in honor of those who lost their lives during the liberation struggle of EOKA. SUMMARY:Tylliria Trails Run at Kato Pyrgos
DESCRIPTION:More Info & Registrations \nThe race is organized by RuNicosia (Non-Profit Organization) with the strong support of the Kato Pyrgos Community Council and the Nicosia Tourism Board. It comprises two races one for 18.5km for short distances trail runners and beginners and a longer one for 33.5km for the demanding and experience trail runners. Runners will enjoy the magnificent picturesque of the Kato Pyrgos and the Morphou bay while they may be outrun by the mouflons which are present at the area and overflew and overseen by the Aquila Fasciata Eagle (species under extinction). \nThe race start and finish will be at the Kato Pyrgos landmark\, the centenarian oak tree situated at the village main road. Following a paved road\, the runners will enter the Katouris dry riverbed with trees and thick vegetation on both sides protecting the runners from the sun. Once reaching the Katouris river water dam\, the runners will start an uphill route through forest roads and trails. Following very steep slopes\, fire protection zones\, and running over mountain ridges the runners will be overwhelmed by the picturesque and the beautiful view of the Pyrgos bay the deep blue\, and the landscape of the area. Η εκκίνηση και ο τερματισμός θα γίνουν στο Δημαρχείο Λατσιών.\n\n\n\nΟι συμμετέχοντες θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να τρέξουν ή να περπατήσουν στις κύριες Λεωφόρους του Δήμου και στον τερματισμό θα επιβραβευθούν με αναμνηστικά μετάλλια. Οι συμμετέχοντες θα λάβουν επίσης και τεχνική φανέλα\, ειδική για τρέξιμο. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \nMore info and registrations \nJoin us for a weekend of trail running in the beautiful Akamas Peninsula at a time when the spring flowers are at their dazzling best.\n\nEven though we are not holding trail races this year\, we believe a weekend of exploring the trails with fellow runners during the day and socialising in the evenings will more than fill the gap.\nWe will be camping during the weekend at the Smigies picnic area (bring your own tent\, sleeping bag etc) but plenty of other accommodation is available in Latchi and Polis\, including at the lovely Aphrodite Beach Hotel.\n\nRunners can run on their own or as part of a group. The routes will not be marked out so runners need to follow them on GPX devices (We will provide GPX and KML files for each section.) Runners need to be self-sufficient although we will leave supplies at certain points that are reachable by vehicle.\n\nRunners are free to join for the entire weekend or opt for any of the individual events.\n\nA tentative program is as follows:\n\nFriday\, March 31\n6pm\nSunset run – about 7km. Start at the Smigies picnic area and follow trails to the lookout on top of the hill. After watching the sun set from this magnificent vista\, return to Smigies along jeep tracks. Headlamp recommended.\n7.30pm\nBBQ at Smigies picnic area (fires provided but bring your own supplies)\n\nSaturday\, April 1\n9am\n36 km loop of the Akamas race\, with options to do shorter distances of 5km\, 10km\, 20km\, or 25km. Start and finish at the Aphrodite Baths parking area. Note that runners doing the longer distance need to be self-sufficient for 27km as much of the route tracks through very remote areas.\n2pm onwards – Picnic lunch (venue to be determined).\n6pm\nBBQ at Smigies picnic area (fires provided but bring your own supplies)\n\nSunday\, April 2\n9am\n24km loop with options to do shorter distances of 5km\, 10km\, 15km\, or 20km. Start and finish at Smigies picnic area.\n2pm\nPicnic lunch at Smigies\n3pm – Farewells and goodbyes at end of camp.\n\nNote that we wish to keep the costs for runners to a minimum. For the supplies that we will provide along the route (water\, Coke\, bananas\, fruit etc) we ask for a donation of 5 euros from each runner per day. (No charge for Friday’s sunset run). Those who wish to join in the picnic lunches will need to contribute extra (amount still to be determined).
